Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Rate – September 17, 2024

As a resident of Point Aquarius, it’s important to stay informed about changes that may impact your property taxes. The Point Aquarius Municipal Utility District (MUD) has announced a public hearing to discuss the proposed tax rate for the 2024 tax year. This hearing is scheduled for September 17, 2024, at 5:00 PM, and you have the option to attend in person or via video conference.

What You Need to Know

The proposed tax rate for 2024 is $0.4765 per $100 of property value, an increase from last year’s rate of $0.4300. This change represents a 10.81% increase in the rate, which translates to an additional $227.07 in taxes for the average residence homestead, a 17.43% increase compared to last year.

Why Is the Rate Increasing?

The additional revenue generated from this tax increase is intended to support debt service payments and the ongoing operations and maintenance of the utility system within the district. This is crucial for ensuring that the infrastructure continues to meet the community’s needs.

What Happens Next?

If the proposed tax rate results in more than a 3.5% increase in taxes on the average residence homestead, Texas law requires that an election be held to allow residents to approve or reject the new rate. However, if the final adopted rate is less than or equal to the voter-approval tax rate, no election will be necessary.

How Can You Get Involved?

This public hearing is your opportunity to voice your opinion and learn more about how the proposed tax rate may affect you. You can attend the hearing in person at 13185 Point Aquarius Blvd., Willis, TX, or join via video conference through the link provided by the MUD.

For those interested in further details, such as the specific figures regarding last year’s and this year’s tax rates and property values, the full notice contains all the relevant information. Staying engaged and informed is key to understanding and influencing decisions that affect our community.

By participating in this process, you contribute to the financial health and sustainability of Point Aquarius, ensuring that our community continues to thrive while managing the costs that come with maintaining essential services.

Upgrading Our Future: Antares Drive Waterline Replacement Project to Begin September 2024

The PAMUD is continuing with the planned program to upgrade the 50+ year old waterline infrastructure within the District.

The current waterline replacement project will take place along Antares Drive and includes the replacement of the existing fire hydrants and the replacement of approximately 2,800 linear feet of 8-inch waterline.  The Contractor, Bull-G Construction, is anticipating beginning construction on September 3, 2024.  The project is estimated to be completed within 90 calendar days. During construction, the contractor will disturb some of the yards and existing driveways within the right-of-way.  Yards and driveways will be restored to original condition or better.

Residents may experience temporary water disruption to allow for re-connection of services and connection to exiting water mains. Disruption will vary between 4-6 hours during connections to water mains.  The contractor will provide at least 48-hours of advance notice during this construction.  Once the work is performed, your water service will be restored.

Please contact the following PAMUD contracted engineering representative if you have any issues: Webb Peterson at 281-813-3670.

Storm Water Collection System and Flooding Survey

The PAMUD Board has received input from some residents regarding surface water flooding of their homes as a result of significant rain events.  The PAMUD constructed and maintains several inlets and underground conveyance pipes that comprise the PAMUD storm sewer system.  Elements of this drainage system are over 50 years old.  The PAMUD Board approved a plan to investigate the extent of flooding and potential issues in its system by surveying residents to help identify the frequency, severity and location of any structural flooding.   If you have experienced water levels above your structural floor slab, please fill out the questionnaire linked below and return as directed.  The results of this survey will help the Board move to the next step, which will include camera inspections of trouble spots to help identify blockage or plugged conveyance pipes.  Additional steps, including discussion on engineering analyses and potential rehabilitation construction projects, will be considered by the Board as options in future meetings.
